Full-time Missionaries
Senior couples and young single adult women

There is a need for worthy couples and young single adult women to serve 6 months between mid-April and mid-October each year. Some missionary couples will be invited to stay for the winter if their circumstances allow. For those residing near Heber Valley, some of these positions may be filled while living at home.

Opportunities exist for full-time missionaries to serve for 6 months, 18 months or 24 months. Applications for these opportunities should be made using the standard online procedures for senior missionaries (bishops should be familiar with these procedures).

The descriptions of typical camp duties described below are for informational purposes. Missionary assignments may be rotated on a daily or hourly basis based on the needs of the camp or for variety and interest. Missionaries should remain flexible and willing to serve wherever needed.

It is extremely important that all missionaries be physically fit, healthy, and free of serious ailments due to the heavy workload and physical labors which are occasionally required. The elevation at the camp ranges between 8,000 and 10,000 feet. Days are usually mild and evenings cool, but there are occasional extremes of hot and cold and occasional summertime snow.

Couple Missionaries - Couple missionaries serve six days per week. The camp is closed each Sunday. Church services are held on-site each Sabbath for the missionaries and occasional family guests. One day off per week will be scheduled for shopping, laundry, etc. Couples from outside the immediate area may either bring their own recreational vehicle or camp trailer in which to live (full hook-ups are provided including water, sewer and electricity), or may rent a furnished cabin (limited availability). Monthly rental fees of $250 per RV/camp trailer parking spot and $500 per cabin apply, which include utilities. All couples must bring an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) for use in transportation around camp. Some couples have found it more convenient to bring two ATVs.

Young Single Adult Women Missionaries - Single young adult women missionaries will be needed from Monday morning through late Saturday afternoon to assist in management of the challenge courses and waterfront. Overnight sleeping facilities for young women missionaries will be provided in cabins.

-give your full name, address, telephone number(s) and email address
-provide a brief description of your background, qualifications and availability
-give full name and contact information of your bishop and stake president
If deemed suitable, you will then complete a senior missionary recommendation form with your bishop and stake president.

Typical Camp Duties:

Camp Hosts
Duties include greeting arriving camp leaders, orienting them and conducting check-in procedures, being available for assistance in use of facilities or answering questions about policies and procedures, transporting garbage bags several times daily from campsite to dumpster using their ATV, keeping restroom supplies stocked, some occasional cleaning or light handy-man work, reporting maintenance problems to the camp maintenance director on forms provided, conducting check-out procedures as campers prepare to leave, and being prepared to help in emergency situations (training provided). Camp hosts must live on-site in their own recreational vehicle or trailer.

Public Safety
Duties include staffing the welcome center for a shift each day/night that camp is in session to control access to the camping area, patrolling the camp to give a presence of security to campers and to handle any security issues that may arise, patrolling of the camp perimeter to check on the condition of fences and signs and to discourage unapproved intrusion, and cooperating with any emergency personnel that visit camp. Former law enforcement professionals are ideal in filling these positions. Heber Valley residents may fill these positions while living at home. Others will need to live in the camp.

Property Management
Duties include upkeep of buildings and other facilities, forestry issues, building and grooming trails, installing fencing and posting perimeter signs, and supervising volunteers who come to Heber Valley Camp to assist with these issues. Those with experience in maintenance, electrical, plumbing, painting, heavy equipment operation, and related fields are especially needed.

Cabin Construction
Many of the facilities at Heber Valley Camp are constructed by licensed contractors. However, several cabins are constructed each year by volunteers supervised by Church Service Missionaries who have previous experience in construction. The cabins are assembled with laminated, pre-fabricated logs which are engineered in a factory. A few former contractors or builders are needed to be trained in the unique assembly of these cabins who will then supervise volunteers. Skilled roofers, finish carpenters, and hardware specialists are also needed. All materials and tools are provided.

Waterfront
Duties include scheduling of campers for use of canoes and paddle boats, orienting and supervising use of all waterfront facilities, and maintaining facilities and equipment (training provided). All will be trained in first aid and CPR and must be capable of providing first-response emergency medical services. This is a popular and well-used area. Missionaries living near Heber Valley may fill these positions while living at home. Others will need to live in the camp.

Challenge Course
Missionaries are needed to operate the camp's several challenge courses (high and low ropes courses). Duties include spending each day with campers who are scheduled to learn life and interpersonal skills by participating in these activities. Training and certification will be provided by the camp prior to its opening. These are popular and well-used areas. Missionaries living near Heber Valley may fill these positions while living at home. Others will need to live in the camp.

Forestry, wildlife lecturer, educator
A retired female teacher or forester is needed to teach group lectures about the history and culture of the area, conservation, environmental awareness and protection, native wildlife, and other topics related to nature and the outdoors. Duties include preparing and presenting these lectures at various times of the day or evening. A Heber Valley resident may fill this position while living at home. Others will need to live in the camp.
